Poster Printing: Letterpress Orientation In-Person

Letterpress printing is a historic relief printing technique used to create books, prints, posters, and more. Vandercook cylinder presses are the gold standard for contemporary letterpress printers and our Book Arts Studio is lucky enough to have two!

In this hands-on training session we will learn the basic techniques associated with setting type and using the Book Arts Studio's Vandercook Presses. Each participant will contribute to a collaborative class print and have the opportunity to set metal type, observe the process of setting up and inking the press for printing, and pull a print using the press. Students will leave with multiple prints of the collaborative poster. Upon completing this training session, students will have access to make letterpress prints during Book Arts Studio Open Hours.

Please note: This training has a limited number of seats and will prioritize student registration. Interested faculty and staff should not use this form to register, but should email bookarts@richmond.edu to be placed on a waitlist. If there are seats available, you will be contacted a week before the event and invited to register in the order that your email was received. Faculty interested in learning more about the Vandercook presses for use in classroom instruction should email bookarts@richmond.edu.
